Nixon Names Former GOP Senate Leader to State Board of Education

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has appointed former Republican State Senate Leader Charlie Shields to the Missouri State Board of Education.
The governor’s office says Shields will start serving immediately. The State Senate must confirm the appointment. That could happen during the veto session in September.
Shields has been involved in state government for 20 years.
Shields will now be one of the state Board members that will deal with the troubled, unaccredited Kansas City Missouri School District.
Shields’ background is in medical administration. He’s the CEO of the Truman Medical Center Lakewood operation. He was a medical administrator in St. Joseph before that.
