The new Republican nominee for the Mo-8 Congressional seat, State Representative Jason Smith, officially filed for Congress today.
Smith won a 6-round GOP Committee election for the nominaton Saturday.
“Now more than ever, Missourians need effective representatives who will stand up against the out-of-control federal government,”, said Smith in a news release.
“It is humbling to know that I may be their voice in Washington,” said Smith. “Since December, I have put more than 10,000 miles on my car as I’ve campaigned throughout southern Missouri. It is with that same intensity that I will work over the next four months to take our conservative message to every corner of the 8th District.”
Former Congresswoman jo Ann Emerson resigned from the seat to take a job as a l;obbyist.
Southeast missouri Democrats will select thier nominee at a committee meeting this coming Saturday.
Smith is a heavy favororite to win. The Mo-8 is a traditonally Republican district.
