Sanders Predicts Low Budget for Ethics Reform Campaign ‘There’s No Money in Good Government’

Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders predicted a now frill campaign for he August 3 Charter Change vote.
“There’s no money in good government said Sanders at a Monday news conference explaining the Charter changes.
He says they’ll have to convince voters by word of mouth because they will not be able to afford “glossy” advertisements or slick TV commcials.
A special citiuizens committe reviewd the 1972 Jacxon County Charter. That is the basuic document for the government, similar to the function of a city charter. The reviews was led by former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes.
Among the changes, a end to no-bid contracts issued by the county executive. Reforming or doing away with some little-used county agencies, and adding a permanet staff for the Office of Citizens complaints.
The County Legislature did eleiminate one proposed change. It refused to accept the Charter Review Panel’s sugguestion of a pay raise for county officials.
