Police Report of Kyle James P&L District Incident

The Kansas City Star reports mayor Sly James’ son, Kyle was supposedly handcuffed by police after he started trouble at a Power and Light district restaurant and refused to pay his bill.

The report says Kyle James, 22, was at Fran’s Restaurant.

An off duty police officer was working at the restaurant about 4am last Saturday morning. The officer said James told him he was not paying because he didn’t eat the food he ordered.

The Star says James supposedly asked the officer if he “knew who he was’, before telling him he was the Mayor’s son.

He also threatened the office with his job, according to the story..

James was not arrested. But he was told to leave the restaurant and not to return. The officer says james had been causing trouble in the restaurant before.

A statement from Mayor Sly James says “My son is a 22-year old man who made a mistake. He is extremely embarrassed and very sorry for the entire incident.”

  1. First, the man was drunk. Who served him? They should be fired for the excess. A patron should not be served beyond the point of obviouse drunkedness. Why did the manager and off duty officer let it get this far? He should have been escorted to the door at the first sign of trouble after the first warning. This part does see a a set up of sorts.

My experience with officers says that officers can be as creative as they want in a report. Either way.
On the other hand. The young James is a privaleged brat who should have spent the next two days in jail if he did get drunk and act a total ass and abuse other patrons. Again, who served him to that poin? Money talks.

Mayor James should make him apologize, pay for his and the patrons’ food, then go volunteer for 60 days. Afterward, he should make the brat get a job and be on his own.

    • I think you’re missing the point, which is not to blame everyone else for Kyle’s bad behavior. Kyle is responsible for his behavior & should be made to pay the consequences when he acts a fool in public. Drunk or not, I’ve seen all kinds of apologies for his behavior (this is not the first time he’s acted a fool in public, then invoked his father as an excuse). Kyle needs to man-up & STOP acting like an idiot.

I hope next time, they arrest him. Perhaps a night or two in jail will curb his otherwise unhealthy & impolite demeanor.

  2. If he’s a “22 yr old man” his father shouldn’t be making apologies for him. Man up!!

  3. Sad. Unfortunately, this type of crap happens to officers all the time. It happens on traffic stops, drunk & disorderlys, etc. I agree, this little shit should have been arrested and his Daddy should have left him in jail to sober up and maybe grow up a little. Note to Sly – Stop making excuses and apologizing for your son. He’s an adult. Your time raising him is over and you obviously missed a few opportunities to make an impression on him. Not to mention the fact that it only brings your integrity into question when you apologize for your son and he can’t man up to do it himself. Pathetic. Not that much better than Funkhouser making excuses for that wife of his. The whole lot of you have issues. No wonder the general public can’t stand politicians.

  4. Kyle is simply a spoiled, “thinks he’s all that” skinny-ass little douchebag who needs to have his ass whooped – plain and simple.
