Nixon Describes Storm Damage to Homeland Security Chief

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon spoke with Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano about the storms that raked across Missouri thus week killing three.
Nkxon’s office says he spoke with Napolitano about the deployment of Missouri National Guards troops in the damages areas.
National Guard troops are proving security to Branson and nearby Kimberling City.
Missouri Highway Patrol troopers are helping Kimberling City officials clear the waterway around the small city’s marina. That’s part of the effort to accelerate the clean up efforts.
“I commend the outstanding work by the men and women of our law enforcement and emergency management communities over the past few days. Their dedicated efforts saved lives, protected personal property and ensured that the rule of law remained intact, " Nixon said in a statement.
Safety inspections of damaged buildings are also underway.
Nixon’s statement did not mention any request for federal assistance or money.
Earlier, Missouri Senator Roy Blunt told reporters he was not sure any of the storm
damage in Missouri would rise to the level of needing federal money.
