Group Launches Missouri Drive to Get Sexual Orientation Rights Protected

A campaign to insure gay and lesbian rights in Missouri appears set to proceed. A group called ‘Missourians for Equality’ says they starting the drive early next year.
The goal is to make sure words “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, are included under the state’s policies prohibiting discrimination.
Missourians for Equality says it received approval from Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s office to circulate petitions. The goal is to get the issue on the 2014 ballot.
The group says it needs more than 105, 000 signatures from registered voters to get a statewide vote on the proposal.
“The campaign filed for approval on November 7th, and has been hard at work organizing their signature drive. “The news comes at the perfect time—the start of a new year,” Executive Director Aaron Malin said, “We are hosting kickoff events across the state on Saturday January 19 in order to start off this new phase of our campaign “, according to a news release.
