Blunt To Chair Senate Rules Committee

Missouri Republican Senator Roy Blunt has been voted the new Chairman of the influential Senate Rules Committee.
Blunt’s office confirmed the vote today in a news release.
The Rules Committee has a great deal of influence on how and when Senate legislation is handled.
A key issue for the new Senate Rules Committee is whether or not to return to the long- standing Senate procedure on requiring 60 votes, rather than a simple majority, to move on Presidential a d judicial nominations.
The recent t Democratic majority voted to change that rule.
Blunt succeeds New York’s Democratic Senator Charles Schumer as the head of the Rules panel.
““As the new Republican majority strives to get the Senate back to regular working order, I’m honored that my colleagues chose me to fill this important role in the 114th Congress,” said Blunt. “I’m confident that we can restore and uphold the Senate’s tradition of open debate in a more transparent and accountable way for the American people,” Blunt said.
