A day after the Kansas City Royals make national baseball headlines, the city announces its own baseball plans for an inner city neighborhood.
Kansas City Mayor Sly James say the city plans an MLB Urban Youth Baseball Academy and new baseball fields in the area around 18th & Vine. The project will be built in two phases.
It will use about $2 million on public funds and money from Major League Baseball, the Players Association and the Kansas City Royals.
James says the project is intended to redevelop the area around 18th and Vi e and the Parade Park Apartment complex.
Other improvements include new tennis courts, basketball courts. a walking trail and new at ground. An indoor baseball facility is included in the second phase of the project.
