RNC Names Dallas & Cleveland as Convo Finalists. KC Out

The Republican National Committee has passed over Kansas City and selected Dallas and Cleveland as finalists for the 2016 GOP Convention.
The selection of Dallas was not a surprise. The Dallas pitch had deep pockets in a very Republican state.
Cleveland’seffort was helped by strong fund raising and the fact that Ohio is a swing state in Presidential elections.
“The committee extends our sincere thanks and gratitude to Denver and Kansas City for their hard work and dedication to this effort. Both teams should be proud of their work. They were great ambassadors for their cities,” said site selection chairman Enid Mikelsen in a statement.
Kansas City was pitching a Heartland experience for the GOP.
They were also invoking the heritage of Ronald Reagan.
The local bid wanted the Republicans to return to Kansas City, where they say the Reagan Revolution was launched with his unsuccessful big at the 1976 Kansas City GOP convention.
There were concerns Kansas City did not have enough hotel rooms, but it’s booster said they had more than 30,000 close in rooms and met the bidding requirements.
The GOP may pick a convention city at a party meeting in Chicago in August.

GOP Convo Panel Starts Final Site Tour in Dallas

(AP) – Top Republican officials are visiting Dallas as they consider sites for the party’s 2016 convention.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus (ryns PREE’-bus) will speak to reporters about Dallas’ convention bid. Also expected to appear are former Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, a Democrat.

RNC officials will arrive at Dallas’ Victory Plaza downtown and tour the American Airlines Center, the arena that would serve as the convention site if Dallas’ bid is successful.

Dallas is competing with Denver, Cleveland and Kansas City.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney apparently favors a 2016 GOP convention in Kansas City.
2016 Republican candidate for Governor Catherine Hanaway tweeted out a picture of her posing with Cheney at a reception in Kansas City Wednesday night.
“A big thank to Mr. Vice President and Mrs Cheney for coming to Kansas City to support @KCRNC2016”.
The Kansas City Start reports Cheney also made a pitch for holding the GOP convention earlier in the 2016 election year.
Of the four finalists the site selection committee is considering, only Kansas City’s Sprint Center Arena does not have a pro sports team as anchor tenant.
Professional basketball and hockey teams play into the spring with many season lasting longer because if the playoff schedules.
The GOP would want access to the convention site in the spring if it wants to hold a June convention.

Kansas City has made the final list of cities the GOP is considering for it’s 2016 convention, according to City Hall sources.
Cleveland, Ohio is also in the finals according to a Cleveland TV station.
According to reports, Cincinnati and Las Vegas dropped out before the selection started

Big Day for KC’s Convention Drive

Kansas City could find out today if it remains in the running for the 2016 GOP convention.
Members of the Republican’s Site Selection Committee are expected to have a conference call and evaluate the field of cities interested in hosting the 2016 event.
Kansas City, Denver, Cincinnati Coleveland, Dallas , and Las Vegas are among the cities pitching the GOP.
The panel is expected to narrow the field today. Then the committee members will visit the potential host cities.
That will probably take place in June, according to the RNC.
The Party plans to make a decision later this summer.
