State Treasurer Clint Zweifel:
“It is with a heavy heart that I send my thoughts and prayers to the Schweich family during this difficult time. Tom served his state and country admirably, and fought strongly for his values. With his passing, Missouri has lost a devoted public servant. He will be missed.”

Koster Confirms the Fact, Making Preps to Run for Governor in 2016
April 10, 2013
(AP)– Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says he is making preparations to run for governor in 2016.
Koster, a Democrat, has served as attorney general since 2009 and previously was a state senator and local prosecutor. He has the potential to move up because Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon is prohibited by term limits from again seeking re-election.
Asked on Tuesday whether he will run for governor in 2016, Koster replied: “We are making the necessary preparations and building consensus around the state toward that end.”
Koster’s statement came a day after the campaign manager for Democratic State Treasurer Clint Zweifel said Zweifel will not run for governor in 2016. He cited Zweifel’s desire to spend time with his teenage daughters and avoid a contentious primary.
Zweifel Makes It Official, No Guv Run in 2016

(AP) — Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel is ruling out a run for governor in 2016.
Zweifel, a Democrat, is prohibited by term limits from seeking a third term as treasurer. He had been mentioned along with Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster as a potential successor to Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.
But Zweifel campaign manager Mike Pridmore said Monday that Zweifel will not run for governor in 2016. He cited Zweifel’s desire to spend time with his teenage daughters as the primary reason to forgo a gubernatorial campaign.
Pridmore said Zweifel also wanted to avoid a potentially divisive party primary.

Missouri Times:
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — State Treasurer Clint Zweifel is expected to announce Monday that he will not seek the Democratic nomination for governor in 2016 — effectively clearing the field of a major road block for Attorney General Chris Koster’s likely candidacy.
Zweifel, a former Teamster, apparently announced his intention during a meeting with Attorney General Chris Koster. After the meeting he informed U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill while she was in mid-Missouri earlier this week, according to four Democratic sources with knowledge of the negotiations.
Bi Partisan Group of Missourians Join Forces for ‘Fix the Debt’ Campaign
November 19, 2012
(AP) – A bipartisan group of current and former Missouri officials is calling for federal leaders to address the national debt.
Leaders of Missouri’s chapter of the Campaign to Fix the Debt said Monday at the state Capitol that addressing the nation’s debt requires a bipartisan effort from elected leaders in Washington.
The state chapter is led by former U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, a Republican; former Gov. Bob Holden, a Democrat; Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder and Democratic state Treasurer Clint Zweifel (ZWY’-ful).
The national Campaign to Fix the Debt claims a membership of more than 300,000 business leaders, citizens and current and former elected officials. The organization also is urging efforts to avoid the so-called “fiscal cliff” of federal tax increases and spending cuts that could push the economy into recession.
