(AP) – Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich has been officially sworn-in for another term to serve as a watchdog to state government.
Schweich was sworn-in Monday after being elected to a second four-year term in the November general election. He faced no Democratic opposition.
The Republican from the St. Louis suburb of Clayton celebrated with about 30 friends and family members in his Missouri Capitol office.
The ceremony came hours after U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill announced she will not run for Missouri governor in 2016, a position Schweich’s been considering for months.
Schweich says he plans to announce whether he’ll run for governor before mid-February.
So far, former U.S. Attorney and House Speaker Catherine Hanaway is the only declared Republican candidate, and Attorney General Chris Koster is the only declared Democrat.
