Jackson County Approves Money for Final Restoration of Jackson County Courthouse in Independence


The Jackson County Legislature has approved the final $4.8 million to complete the restoration of the Jackson County Courthouse on the Independence Square.
“Once finished, the historic courthouse in Independence will be returned to the integrity of its 1933 design and offer various attractions, including tours of President Truman’s office and the courtroom where he once worked as Presiding Judge of Jackson County. The courthouse will also feature a gallery displaying art and historical artifacts significant to the State of Missouri. Various county departments, the Independence Department of Tourism and Jackson County Historical Society will be housed in the courthouse as well,” according to a statement from the County.
Renovations including a new heating and cooling system as well as an elevator to allow visitors to easily get to all 3 floors of the building.
The County expects the building to be re-opened next summer.
