Priest Says Call for Rome to Punish KC Bishop Finn Passed on to Holy See

The Holy See in Rome, the seat of government for Vatican City, and the Catholic Embassy in Washington have received a priest’s called for Kansas City Bishop Robert Finn to be punished by Pope Francis for his role in the Shawn Ratigan priest abuse scandal.
Fr. James Connell e-mailed some allies in the Kansas City, Missouri diocese alerting them that Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the Apostolic Nuncio (The Vatican’s Ambassador to the United States) received Connell’s request and passed it along to Rome.
Connell and some local Catholics believe Bishop Finn should be punished by the Catholic Church.
Finn was convicted of a misdemeanor of failing to promptly report what the diocese knew of Ratigan’s sexually graphic images of little girls on the priest’s computer.
Ratigan is now in prison for 50 years.
Connell believes Finn violated Church law through his actions and contributed to harming people.
Some Catholics have been calling for Finn to resign because the scandal. Others want Rome to demote or transfer Finn
Connell is advocating Finn be punished. He says it’s up to the Pope, however, to determine the punishment.
Connell advised his Kansas City colleagues to now be patient.
“If we hear nothing in two months or so, then it would be wise for us to contact the nuncio and request that he check on the status of our request of the pope,” the priest wrote.
