Obama Trip to Osawatomie, KS Tuesday Confirmed

President Barack Obama will visit Osawatomie, Kansas Tuesday. The trip was confirmed by the White House Saturday morning.
There had been local speculation for days about the trip. Secret service and military advance teams have been in the area of southern Johnson County and northern Miami County for much of the week.
The White House release says “The President will talk about how he sees this as make-or-break moment for the middle class”, as he discusses the economy.
President Theodore Roosevelt visited Osawatomie just over 100 years ago, the new release notes. At that time Roosevelt called for a “New Nationalism”, where everyone gets a fair chance, a square deal, and equal opportunity to succeed.
In recent weeks, as the 2012 election nears the president has been stepping up is call for Washington to protect the middle class.
For example he wants to continue a payroll tax cut extension by raising taxes on people who make over $1 million. But that idea was defeated earlier this week in the Senate. It is likely, however, to re-surface later in the month.
The President will fly into the Kansas City area Tuesday and deliver a speech at the Osawatomie High School.
