The Johnson County DMV office inMission is still dealing with long delays.
Johnson County Treasurer Tom Franzen says they were only able to process a about two-thirds of the renewal applications they normally do in the month of May.
Franzen made a progress report to the Johnson County Board of Commissioners Thursday morning.
Computer problems continue to plague Kansas’ new $40 million license renewal system. Technical experts are still struggling to figure out why the system is so slow.
Franzen says simple renewals of license tags are still taking two to three times longer than normal under the old system.
Meanwhile the extension for April renewals is set to expire at the end of the business today, May 31. The May extension goes until the end of June.
Many local law enforcement agencies say police officers are being told to use discretion if they stop a car with expired tags.
It’s possible an expired tag from April or May of this year will not result in a ticket.
Expired tags from earlier than that, however, will probably result in a ticket, meaning a fine and court fees.
